Overnight stay at Terres Rouges Lodge
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the lodge. Embark on a journey northwest, crossing bamboo forests, until you reach the village of Voeune Sai located on the left bank of the Se San River. Enjoy the stunning view of the Chinese village on the other side of the river. This unique place could be considered a Chinese enclave within Cambodian territory, as most of the villagers have been there since the 1930s and don’t even speak Khmer.
Upstream of the Se San River, you’ll find Tampoun villages that practice funeral statuary. If weather conditions permit, take a scenic boat trip to the village of Ka Choan and visit its magnificent totems. Alternatively, you can reach this marvelous place by jeep.
Enjoy a delicious dinner and overnight stay at Terres Rouges Lodge.
Begin your day with a delightful breakfast at the lodge. Drive north, heading towards Laos and the village of Taveng. After crossing Veyrum Plang, a round lava field surrounded by forest, visit a small waterfall (available only during the rainy season) enclosed by tiger caves.
Later on, stop at beautiful local Kroeung villages located in the forest on both sides of the road. The further north you drive, the more stunning the forest becomes. In some Kroeung villages, depending on the season, you might be able to discover impressive bachelor houses built on high stilts. These houses have an interesting background: they are destroyed once their purpose is fulfilled, only to be rebuilt by younger men the following season.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a suitable location before exploring the nearby villages. Conclude the day with a delicious dinner and overnight stay at Terres Rouges Lodge.
